If you’re suffering from back or neck pain and you can’t seem to find relief, you may be wondering is there anything that could help to relieve my pain? The answer is, Yes! At ISPW we offer a variety of treatment options for anyone suffering with Chronic Pain. One of these treatment options is Spinal Cord Stimulators. This treatment is done in-office with a trial procedure that will allow a patient to see if this could be a solution for their pain.
Spinal Cord Stimulators
In this article, I will go over frequently asked questions that pertain to Spinal Cord Stimulators and Chronic Pain.
What is a Spinal Cord Stimulator? it is a procedure where a tiny medical device offers low-level impulses to the spinal cord or to specific nerve areas to block the pain receptors from reaching the brain.
Why do people need spinal cord stimulators? people often seek out additional treatment for chronic back or neck pain when other treatments have failed. Spinal Cord Stimulators has been studied and shown to offer significant relief when all other procedures don’t work.
What is the process of this procedure? A patient will be required to undergo a trial period in order to confirm that the device will offer relief to the area that a patient is experiencing pain. During this trial procedure, the doctor will use an epidural needle to place a lead with electrodes into the epidural space. Once the electrodes are placed your doctor will then do a few test positions in order to find out exactly where the leads should be placed to offer optimal pain relief. Once this has been achieved you will go home with the leads for one week to confirm the device can offer you significant relief. If you have received desired results you will have the device surgically implanted a week later.
Who is a candidate for spinal cord stimulators?
- peripheral neuropathy
- post surgical pain
- heart pain
