The supplement industry is a billion-dollar industry and is just continuing to grow. It seems that no matter where you look, someone has a new type of supplement for you to try. I myself, have been noted as a supplement junky. I take several different supplements daily, all prescribed specifically for me and my health. I am a big believer in supplements and their ability to help optimize health. That being said, there is a certain quality to look for when deciding to purchase and take certain supplements. In this post, I want to share some key information on the importance of supplement quality and how to make sure you aren’t wasting your money on supplements that don’t do anything.
Supplements
Also known as vitamins or dietary supplements can contain minerals, herbs, amino acids, botanicals, enzymes, and other ingredients. Adults and children often take vitamins/supplements regularly. The most popular vitamins are multivitamins, vitamin c, and d. Many doctors stress the importance of specific vitamins, such as vitamin c, zinc, quercetin, vitamin d, and several others, to help optimize immunity. Because adults and children aren’t receiving the proper nutrition support through diet, many practitioners will prescribe specific vitamins based on your labs and medical history.
Quality Matters
The FDA has established good manufacturing practices (GMPs) that companies must follow to help ensure their dietary supplements’ identity, purity, strength, and composition. They do periodic inspections of vitamin companies and distributors. When purchasing and consuming a vitamin, it’s essential to ask your doctor to make sure taking that specific vitamin is safe and won’t interact with certain medications you may be taking. Always research to ensure that the vitamin brand has been third-party tested. This ensures the quality of your supplement and that it contains the right ingredients.
When starting our clinic, ISPW, I extensively researched the different vitamin brands. We have two that we carry at the clinic, Pharmanex and Vista. I take both of these brands and have significantly improved my health.
Pharmanex Supplements
This crucial information helps determine what supplements are needed to optimize health.
Vista Supplements
Vista is an advanced line of supplements explicitly formulated by doctors who are industry experts. Vista’s line of supplements targets specific conditions felt by patients.
Their line consists of products formulated for potency and purity and undergoes strict testing to ensure the best quality product is produced. What I like about vista is that they have supplements that target specific conditions. For example, they have a:
- headache formula
- sleep formula
- eye formula
- post-surgery formula
The list continues…
Each of these formulas was created and formulated by a physician who is an expert in that condition to ensure that they only receive nutrients that will target and help relieve symptoms of their condition.
Finally
Before purchasing any supplement, talk to your doctor to determine if it’s right for you. Certain supplements may interact with medications and cause side effects. Your doctor knows your medical history and will not only tell you which supplement brand to buy for quality, but they will also communicate which specific supplements will optimize your health.
The quality of supplements ensures you aren’t wasting money and taking a safe and effective product.
